John Ford

Co-Owner of Responsive Baits.

I've been an angler from a very early age and carping for several years now. I started my fishing in Kent angling for Roach, Rudd, Gudgeon and Crucian Carp. My carping achievements are a 38lb 8oz leather, 35lb 4oz mirror, 34lb 1oz ghostie, and a 33lb 4oz common carp. Ambitions for the year is to bag a forty, be lucky enough to land a kipper from the mighty Fen Drayton and see Responsive Baits grow and grow!!

I'm a Bailiff on Fen Drayton and write a weekly column in Carp Talk (Nene Valley Carping.)

I'm currently fishing Fen Drayton, Swavesey, and the Kennels

 Robert McGregor

Co-Owner of Responsive Baits

I've been carp fishing since 1988 where I took my first double figured carp on a home rolled boilie , after that I was hooked on bait formulation and carp fishing. I was lucky to fish alongside some of the original Northants specimen anglers who shared knowledge of waters and carp baits as they were back then. I quickly absorbed it like a sponge and went on my quest to catch huge carp from tricky waters on home rolled baits. Waters I have fished with success over the years are, Barnwell Country Park lakes, taking many fish from this ultra difficult venue, including both lake record mirror carp of 31lb 4loz and 43lb 8oz, I  also caught the lake record common carp from the then Rotory Pit (now Duchess pond) from across the road at barnwell at 35lb 8loz as well as several others from its low stocked originals. I have fished also at Baston Fen lakes, Sibsons syndicate, Elliot Symaks Patstons lake Northy Park, the river Nene at Oundle and Peterborough electricity cut. Other waters include Irchester carp syndicate, Ditchford carp syndicate, Houghton syndicate, Brightwells and Barkers lakes, Bainton carp fishery and I'm currently fishing the Kennels lake and fen drayton. My PB's to date are: mirror carp 43lb 8oz, common carp 38lb 4oz,leather carp to 38-04, river carp 29lb, Koi carp 28lb 10oz.
My ambition is to catch a 40lb leather and mirror  from 1 venue at the right time of year, and for my baits to gain respect and credibility in this market.

Duane Ward

Field Tester

I've been fishing for around 20 years and ventured into specialist carp fishing in 2000. I have fished various day ticket waters around the country, and had my share of success and fair share of blanks. PB stands at 37lb 8oz Mirror (UK) and 45lb 14oz Mirror (France) My ambition is to be successfull in all that I do, and get rich somehow! My only tip is "Stick to what you know" with a piece of fake yellow corn never fails. Moto for fellow anglers. If you don't catch today try again tomorrow. Future waters, hmmm, ones with fish in them. I'm currently banging my head on the Mill lake at Wellingborough and fishing other waters in Birmingham area.

Matthew Bland

Field Tester

I've been fishing 26 years, and mainly pursuing Carp for 20 of them but I still like to fish for specimens of other species such as Zander, Tench, Pike and Barbel. My main source of enjoyment in fishing is to fish low stock waters away from the crowds which also present a challenge to catch any fish, let alone specimens. I do like to fish with other people but these tend to be those who also appreciate having miles of space between us and any other anglers.

The waters I currently fish include Fen Drayton, the river Ouse, the river Trent, the Middle Level Drain and Swavesey lake. I have just secured a ticket for next year on  a huge local water so my current ambition is to have a successful spring campaign on there. In addition to that, other ambitions are to catch  a 30+ UK Common as well as a 30+ river Carp.

Nick Clayton

Field Tester

Nick began angling in 1971 aged just 4 years old, with his Father fishing on rivers for minnows, gudgeon, roach, dace, perch, chub, brown trout and eels. Specimens of several species were caught, and are fondly remembered. Some of these fish were caught using a bamboo cane for a rod, and a cotton reel with a bolt in the side (home-made multiplier style) as a reel.

Since this time he has caught in excess of 100 20lb+ carp & several others over the 30lb barrier. He has a UK personal best of 34lbs 6ozs; caught on home-made boilies.

He visited France in 1996 & 1997 and caught fish to 37lbs 12ozs, before concentrating his efforts on syndicate waters in the UK.

For a period in the mid 90’s, carp fishing became an obsession for Nick. He was a shift worker at the time, and used to make the 120 mile journey from Harlow in Essex to North Norfolk, after the end of his exhausting ‘4 on 4 off’ 12 hour shift pattern. Culminating in spending the whole of the festive period of 1995 into 96 on the bank, with the bivvy suitably adorned with tinsel and baubles!

He is now a bailiff of a syndicate lake in Essex.
